CNYR SCCA MEETING MINUTES FOR WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2013

CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 7:14p.m. by R.E. Scott Newton.

R.E.REPORT:
Scott Newton said that he is entered to run the Toledo Pro Solo event in July, which is limited to 250 entrants and "sold out" in the first 45 minutes of on-line registration.
Scott also said that at the July Syracuse Nationals car show at the New York State Fairgrounds there will be a National Street Car Challenge which is basically a SOLO/AUTOCROSS event for show entrants and will be run by a private company hired by East Coast Productions.
Rumor has it that Chris Pook of Long Beach Grand Prix fame, is now involved with the New Jersey F-1 race planning with a target date of 2014.
This venue had financial issues which apparently have been resolved and planning for the race is now active.

ASST.R.E.REPORT:
Ed Leubner was absent, no report.

SECRETARY REPORT:
Bob Holcomb made a motion that the meeting minutes for May be approved as they appeared on our web-site.
Lynn Hidy (daughter of Lee) seconded, motion carried.
In the absence of Membership Chair Andrew Beyer, Bob congratulated Ed Heffron on his 30th anniversary of membership, which gained recognition in the current issue of SportsCar magazine.
Bob also said that Dick Murray contacted him to see if any members would be interested in his collection of back issues of SportsCar and other magazines.
Dick is house cleaning to prepare for his move to North Carolina.
His e-mail is: dmurray2@twcny.rr.com.
Unfortunately his phone number was misplaced.

TREASURER REPORT:
Jay Cartini said he is looking into a new insurance company for our SOLO van as current costs for the limited use that the van gets are very expensive, well over $1,000 per year.

RALLY CROSS REPORT:
Jim Quattro said he did run the rally stage at STRP in Pennsylvania, however due to mechanical issues they were a DNF on day one, but did finish on day two.
The next rally event on Jim's calendar is Sept. 13 & 14, 2013.
Jim said that the planned Rally Cross event at the STRP was cancelled due to inclement weather which adversely effected track conditions, although some fun runs were optional for the entrants.
Jim is working on a possible event date in August, more information to follow when available.
In September there will be a dual event at the Cherry Valley kart track.
The recent event at Central New York Raceway Park had few entrants, however this allowed up to 20 runs per entrant which left most happy.
Jim said you can search YouTube and there should be a Rally Cross video available roughly one hour in length.

SOLO REPORT:
Mark Bizzozero said the June event had a good turnout, somewhat less than may have showed minus rain, but enough that every one was pleased and they actually had very little rain.
Mark said he conducted a survey and the majority voted to approve an event at the New York State Fairgrounds, despite the additional cost to host the event.
Mark is looking into an October date, possibly the weekend before the start of Super Dirt Week.
It is estimated that we will need approx. 58 entrants with a fee of $40-$50 to break even which should be okay as we normally have larger numbers for the Fairgrounds vs. other venues.
Mark asked for volunteers to help with some paving issues at the Microd track in Groton.
The date is Saturday, June 22nd and workers need to show around 8:30a.m.
Directions are on our web-site under SOLO schedule.
The owner is willing to give us liberal access to the location should we help with the improvement.
Jay Cartini said a possible swap might be worked out, if the owner provides the concrete, we supply the labor and then give them free sponsorship naming for a period of time.
Scott Newton said he has purchased one new helmet for the region to be used at SOLO events and is looking into ordering at least one more helmet.

F&C REPORT:
Mick Levy reported that former member Mike Fuller still has boxes of CNYR paper work and would like someone to remove them from his location.
Bob Holcomb said that at the recent Porsche Clash at Watkins Glen he got to play fireman when a Porsche blew it's engine, which caught fire from the oil and ended up directly at his flag station.
Mick Levy reported that at the recent SVRA/TRANS-AM weekend at Watkins Glen he was hit by a wheel weight while working on the Starter stand well above the track surface, suffering a slight bruise on his arm.

COMPETITION/CNYRP:
Mike Gagliardi reported that things are progressing rapidly at CNYRP.
Financing is falling into place and even the Governor is supporting the project.
A ribbon cutting to promote the start of work should happen soon and hopefully they will start having event dates by 2014.
Mike also reported that on July 13, 2013 there will be an auto show at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY, with Porsche as the featured vehicle, followed by Corvette in 2014 and Jaguar in 2015.
Current entrants are in the 150 vehicle range, with many rare models expected.
A discount will be available to SCCA members on admission price.
That date is also when Cherry Valley is holding a "money race" karting event.
Scott Newton reported that Pole Position, the indoor karting facility in DestiNY will be running a race series for adults in July, probably on Mondays.
Entry fee for the 5 week event is $250.
Lee Hidy said there is a 1984 Corvette racer available for purchase (currently with a blown engine) and is being stored at Jim Ford's shop in Fulton, no phone or address available beyond that.
